April 2017

Ricky & Dan invite a dozen Fletcher Street cowboys to the Neighborhood Film Company offices (located less than a mile from the stables) to talk about the possibility of turning Ghetto Cowboy into a feature film.

During this meeting, Ricky and Dan learn that the land on which the stables sit is going to be developed, at which point there will be no place for the horses to graze.

The assembled collection of cowboys and filmmakers agree that Ghetto Cowboy could be a revitalizing force for the black urban riding community in Philly, and that the media attention of a major motion picture could help save Fletcher Street Stables from extinction.

The team mobilizes, and later that month producers Sam Mercer (Sixth Sense, The BFG) and Tegan Jones come aboard and acquire the film rights to Greg Neri’s novel, Ghetto Cowboy.
